Project Anemoi, a prototype emergency ventilator, is the latest in a string of innovative products to be developed by Ampcontrol. Showing adaptability in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ampcontrol drew on their innovative capabilities to provide a solution to a pressing medical concern.
The project, born following a call from NSW Health in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, saw Ampcontrol mobilise a talented engineering team to pivot their expertise towards designing, testing and manufacturing emergency ventilators. Utilising their deep, multi-disciplinary expertise, the Ampcontrol team successfully developed a prototype emergency ventilator in just 18 days, marking the beginning of the Anemoi journey.
Drawing on strong research and development capabilities, the project team were able to take advantage of Ampcontrol’s vertical integration, allowing direct access to advanced manufacturing facilities to assist with electrical assembly, precision fabrication and plastics among others. Furthermore, the engagement and clinical guidance provided by the Hunter New England Health District (HNELHD) proved a major contributing factor to the success of the prototype, with a strong relationship forged between industries pertaining to the future of the Anemoi ventilator.
Following the successful delivery of an initial functional prototype, Ampcontrol were selected by the NSW Government as one of only two organisations to progress their ventilator prototype to the pre-production phase. Work has since begun on the production of 10 pilot ventilators for further clinical assessment and testing through NSW Health, with the objective of enabling the rapid production of 600 ventilators within the Hunter region should the need arise.
Ampcontrol will continue to engage with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to achieve the mandated approvals for the ventilator, initially on the basis of the applicable COVID-19 exemptions, before progressing to achieve full approval.
At Ampcontrol, we believe the innovative ventilator has the potential to provide significant benefit to health care professionals both within Australia and further afield. Leveraging both our domestic and international expertise, we believe we can provide these markets with access to an innovative, high-quality medical device.
Further still, we believe that the relationships formed and success achieved through Project Anemoi has paved the way for the development of a medical manufacturing cluster within the Hunter region.
