A Brief Timeline

Our history

We have a proud history of innovation and collaboration, advancing our business to develop comprehensive energy solutions that meet our customers’ complex energy needs and progress industry.

1968
Humble beginnings

Formed through a business partnership proposed by Neville Sawyer, three colleagues, Peter Cockbain, Keith Grant and Tony Studdert brought Hunter Engineering Sales to life.

1972–1975
A year of firsts

The first ELA Earth Leakage relay came into existence at Raelec Products, shortly followed by the first underground substation and open cut mobile substation, all in 1972. In 1975, the business upgraded to a larger workshop and office space in Tomago.

1976–1989
Finding our stride

After a number of acquisitions and new products launched to market, Ampcontrol saw significant business growth.

1998–2013
Strength in numbers

ATF Mining Electrics, Austech Instruments, Burn Brite, and Captech joined our company’s ranks, revealing that true innovation comes through collaboration.

2003
Transformer manufacturing is underway

This year saw NSW Premier Bob Carr open a multi-million state-of-the-art, purpose-built transformer manufacturing facility at the Tomago office of Ampcontrol.

Partnering for progress

A joint venture between Ampcontrol and the University of Newcastle brought forth ResTech, enhancing research and development in power and systems engineering.

Greg Sedgwick

Chairman

Appointed: October 2018

Greg has over 35 years of experience in the building materials, industrial and healthcare industries across Australia, Asia and Europe. He currently serves as Chairman of NextGen Clubs and Director of the Royal Institute of Deaf and Blind Children. Greg is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

David Scammell

Non-Executive Director

David has extensive corporate advisory experience across a number of sectors, including mining and telecommunications. At present, he is the Managing Director of Pitt Capital Partners, a subsidiary of Washington H. Soul Pattinson & Company who are 100 per cent shareholders in the Ampcontrol Group.

Jaime is the EGM Finance – Private Investments for Washington H. Soul Pattinson. He has experience partnering with operational management in organisations of varying size and complexity, including small private businesses, large national groups, and ASX listed entities.

Dr Glenn Platt

Glenn is an entrepreneur and leader in the energy technology space, and a prominent figure in Australia’s energy transition. He is currently chair of the Ampcontrol Innovation Committee and Executive Director of Strategy and Innovation at Emergent Group.

Rod Henderson

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer

Appointed: January 2014

From managing the development and release of new electronic products at Ampcontrol back in 1991 to now serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Rod has gained complete responsibility for the company’s operations. He oversees strategic direction, overall profitability, group structure, risk management and business growth.

Stacey Sleeman

Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer

Stacey has more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance, operational performance, business improvement, and senior leadership in resources, industrial manufacturing, and renewable energy. She joined Ampcontrol in 2023 and is the first female member of the Board of Directors.
