Rockstarter, Ampcontrol’s latest product for the hard rock mining sector, has completed its first production run today, with 16 units heading out the workshop door of our Cameron Park facility for two different customers in Broken Hill and Orange, NSW.
Two years in the making, Rockstarter is a direct result of our continued investment in research and development of products specifically for our customers across a range of different markets.
It has already been a busy year for the Rockstarter, which has been clocking up some serious frequent flyer points following product demonstrations at MEMMES in Dubbo, NT Resources Week, a customer roadshow in Mt Isa and IMME in India. A unit is now in our UK facility to kick off the European leg.
“It has been an exciting year for us with the official launch of Rockstarter to the market, so to see the first units head out the workshop door today is an amazing achievement and testament to the hardworking, collaborative and innovative team of people we have here at Ampcontrol,” said Global Product Manager, Scott Dallen.
Rockstarter is a new, fully integrated, multifunction, multi-voltage outlet starter that enables quick and seamless application changes, from powering a pump one day to a drill rig the next.

To top off a bumper year of award wins, Ampcontrol was recognised for Excellence in Work Health Safety, (sponsored by AGL), on 29 November at the 2018 Hunternet Chairman’s Awards.
The award recognises a company that demonstrates excellence in safety and training, whether it is through internal processes, involvement in training programs or offering training to the wider Hunternet membership base.
As our CEO and Managing Director, Rod Henderson accepted the award, the below message was read out to the audience to support our win.
“When you log onto the Ampcontrol website, the first heading you will see is “Connecting New Industries Safely”. If you want to join their team you must hold safety as your number one priority. This company invests in their people, it invests in leadership and it understands that training goes hand in hand with safety to promote and produce leaders that will carry through those beliefs which are upheld by all their employees. Ampcontrol continue to lead through safety and training of their people. Well done Ampcontrol.”

With a continued commitment to providing young people with access to STEM related career pathways, Ampcontrol proudly supported the Hunter Young Business Mind Awards on November 28.
Now in its second year, the awards program encourages the region’s youngest innovators and entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas for a business, product, service or solution, with the prize money enabling each category winner to have their idea brought to life.
“At Ampcontrol we’re passionate about creating a link between industry and the community, as we’ve already seen amazing things from the young people who’ve connected with us as part of our existing P-TECH and ME Program outreach activities,” said Leigh Stefanszyn, Ampcontrol General Manager – People and Engagement.
The 2018 Ampcontrol Hunter Young Business Mind Awards included STEM, Young Indigenous Entrepreneur, Creative Industries, Social Enterprise categories and provided participants from year 5 – 12 to let their entrepreneurial and creative spirit soar.
“Getting behind initiatives like the Hunter Young Business Mind Awards means we can help play a part in fostering the enthusiasm, courage and creativity it takes to develop something that is truly innovative. To see these characteristics in young people is amazing and something we are proud to support”, said Leigh.
“We celebrate our 50th anniversary this year and one of our most enduring values has been innovation and an attitude of saying yes to challenges when other can’t. This has set us apart in business and to see so many young people with this same attitude, it is exciting to think what the future holds for these young innovators in the Hunter”, added Leigh.

We were proud to have nine Ampcontrol representatives from across our Hunter operations graduate from the 2018 Hunternet Future Leaders Program at a gala dinner in Newcastle on Friday 2 November.
The Hunternet Future Leaders program, now in its fourth year, is designed to equip future leaders with the skills, contacts and confidence to lead. The program is delivered across 12 sessions by current leaders and professional practitioners and culminates in a group project, supported by an experienced industry mentor.
The objective of this year’s group project was to solve the Hunter’s Brain Drain and reduce the number of young people who are taking their degree and leaving the Region. The Future Leaders were also tasked with identifying what Newcastle and the Hunter can do to attract talent, skills and businesses from outside the region.
During the gala dinner, the five Future Leaders groups delivered an elevator pitch presentation of the solution they had developed before the winning submission was announced.
Team Worrimi, featuring two Ampcontrol participants (Amanda Murray and Adam Fisher) took home the top gong for their concept ’90 Degree, the Right Angle for Business’. Their project addresses the brain drain by producing work-ready graduates and connecting students with business opportunities within the Region.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved in this year’s program. At Ampcontrol, we provide our people with opportunities to be the best they can be, and we’re excited to see where this opportunity will take our Future Leaders within the organisation.
Ampcontrol’s AUK1000 advanced multi-function gate end box is certified for use in underground coal mines across Europe, Turkey and India. It was recently commissioned onsite at Bhelatand Amalgamated Colliery in Jharkhand, India.
Ampcontrol was contracted to design, manufacture and deliver a central motor control unit that could operate up to four conveyor belts from a single station with full digital display and control. The unit was commissioned onsite and 14 local service engineers were trained in both the theoretical and practical application of the equipment.
With a growing portfolio of Member Companies within the Ampcontrol Group, the business is excited to announce the rebrand of Ampcontrol ETM to Verico Asset Integrity Services, an independent member company.

“Rebranding the ETM business as a Member Company is visual confirmation of our confidence in this highly sought after group of technical specialists. Clients will continue to benefit from the decades of experience within the team as well as the operational independence that comes from being a Member Company of Ampcontrol,” added Rod.
The business will deliver data and insights to help clients better optimise asset life-cycle performance across the six core streams of Environmental Monitoring, High Voltage Testing, Power Station Chemistry, Oil Laboratory Testing, Mechanical Testing and Occupational Hygiene.
