Our traction systems (transformer rectifier substations) have been designed and manufactured to suit a diverse range of applications that includes trams and trains, winders and underground material haulage.
The advanced DC rectifier design and the application flexibility of our specialised transformer factory together with prefabricated substation/switchrooms enable complete traction substations to be readily installed on site.
The substations incorporate a fully welded, painted or galvanised steel base with compressed fibre cement flooring. This provides a solid base to suit switchgear loadings and the building exterior can be painted or tiled to customer requirements.
The structurally engineered wall and roof frames, manufactured from galvabond steel, can be thermally insulated, and with the addition of air conditioning provides a temperature efficient interior. The walls and ceiling can be lined with Versulux, Firecheck or Colorbond sheeting to provide up to a two hour fire rating.
A typical application is a 600V, 3000A substation, containing switchgear and control and metering equipment for the conversion of 22kV incoming supply to the 600VDC, to supply the overhead catenary system for Melbourne trams.
