The Metalliferous IPM Integrated Protection Relay is an intelligent microprocessor based relay that provides protection and control of electrical outlets supplying mining machinery, particularly where trailing cables are involved.
The relay combines a number of protection, recognition and alarm features into a single versatile relay, the IPM.
Machine Data Transfer
The IPM Relay can provide machine data transfer through the use of a Remote Termination Module (RTM) connected between the pilot and earth at the machine end of the trailing cable. Through the use of the RTM the relay parameters are automatically uploaded from a remote machine when a cable is inserted into a power outlet therefore not requiring setting by technical staff.
Information Display and Monitoring
Extensive information display and monitoring features are included to facilitate fault finding and system trending. This information can be accessed from the front panel or remotely via the communications port.
Application
The IPM relay requires three current transformers to measure the three line currents which are used to implement the following protection functions; overload, short circuit, phase current balance and residual current. Full load settings cover a range from 0.5 Amps to 640 Amps. The relay is housed in a stainless steel enclosure complete with rear plug-in connectors and is suitable for flush mounting.
Burp Function
Fan control includes the ability to progressively inflate ventilation bags by using a burp function (motor pulsing) several times at start-up.
Pump Control
A level switch input can activate a pump that runs until the motor current falls below a selectable level for an adjustable time period. The IPM relay has a built in ‘snore’ function that can also be used to control pumps.
