New Facility Expands Ampcontrol’s Transformer Capabilities

The transformers team moved into a new custom built facility located at Tomago, NSW, which expanded Ampcontrol’s transformer manufacturing capacity to service a larger market.

With 6,400m² of workspace, the facility was Ampcontrol’s largest to date and provides for the manufacture of transformers up to 80MVA 132kV, as well as the service and repair of units up to and including 80 tonnes.

The facility offers in-house core slitting and cutting, vacuum oven drying facilities, a large hard stand area and increased coil winding ability. The increased winding capabilities include horizontal winding machines and the capacity for two vertical winding machines.  The state of the art high voltage test bay includes 1000kV/75kJ impulse testing, while the routine test bay is equipped to perform tests up to 80MVA 132kV.

In addition, the facility has the capacity for oil storage, handling and filtering for 80,000 litres, coil winding up to 3 metres in length and 2 metres in diameter and impulse testing to 350kV.
