Flameproof Business Begins

Ampcontrol started its underground flameproof equipment business with the purchase of W&S Electrics and the relocation of the business to Tomago. The following year the Group’s first 8 outlet 1kV Flameproof Distribution Control Box (DCB) was designed and manufactured for Cypress Amax, Sth Bulga Colliery. It was manufactured in the Tomago No 2 workshop. From here the company moved to develop further flameproof equipment which ultimately took it into the longwall market.

The provision of flameproof systems and products is now a significant part of Ampcontrol’s business, particularly for the underground mining sector and other hazardous areas. Ampcontrol offer a wide range of applications from flameproof enclosures and DCBs/load centres, to vehicle headlights, cast junction boxes, plugs adapters and reducers.
