Raelec moved to Tomago, outside Newcastle, purchasing property on the corner of Old Punt Road and Tomago Road. This property was sold later that year in exchange for larger premises on Martin Drive, which included a workshop and office space.

Originally the workshop had only a dirt floor and was open to elements at both ends. In July 1976, the workshop was extended and closed in. This property is still Ampcontrol’s No 1 workshop and Tomago remains Ampcontrol’s major manufacturing centre.

An additional 10 acres was purchased at Martin Drive in 1980 to increase manufacturing capacity.
